Azuki beans, lentils and green peas! :D I just wash 'em in cold water and nom on them as a snack! Most of them were for the birds so I didn't get many, but I plan on sprouting more pretty soon. They are so fresh and tasty and refreshing! :D

You should buy a sprout kit! I adore mine!

Cool thanks. How much of a parrot's (African Grey in my case) diet do you think should consist of sprouts? I'm trying to get him eating less pellets lol.

Haha, I don't feed pellets at all anymore. :P

Honestly, I would feed him whatever you'd like his main diet to be [Like Shauna's Mash or what have you] and then just give him 1-2 tablespoons of sprouts everyday. I usually mix it up for my birds, a lot. Some days they get just their Mash, some days they get mash along with boiled egg, steamed veggies, 9-grain bread with a bit of peanut butter, birdy bread and sometimes a small amount of seed mix. Other days they get as much sprouts as they want to eat in the morning, and then mash at dinnertime. I pretty much feed my birds as much as they will eat, and they get all kinds of treats thrown in too. :]

I would say that if he loves them, he could have them for a hearty breakfast. I would start out giving him 1-2tbsp, and if he eats it all, then you can give him more. :]

Yeah I've wanted to stop with the pellets but I worry about human error and him not getting everything he needs. I'm lucky with him that he will eat just about anything. The first few years of his life though he didn't get very good nutrition so I'm pretty paranoid about making sure he gets everything he needs.

I can understand that completely, none of my birds got what they needed either, so now I am trying to make up for that. ;]

Just make sure he gets a lot of variety. I focus on bright orange veggies, and dark green veggies, they have the most nutrition, but using a lot of different kinds of grains and legumes and veggies fills in the gaps too. I also use Avibios everyday with their food, and occasionally will add in a sprinkle of multivitamin [AviVita], as a backup in case there happens to be a hole. C:

I've never heard of Avibios I'll definitely look into it. Thanks :) I was feeding him Harrison's High Potency pellets but they're too pricy so I started feeding him Zupreem Naturals which is what I'm trying to eliminate from his diet.

Avibios is great, and I really like AviVita too. I buy them from here, this place has super-fast shipping. :]

& yeah, Harrisons is very expensive! I adore the product, and would probably still feed it on occasion, but it is very expensive to feed my entire flock. I do plan on ordering some TOP soon though - their prices are very reasonable and I really like the pellets. C:

Yeah, I've had him for about 4 days now. His name is Jordie and he is at least 15 years old, and belonged to one of my neighbors who had to give him up because of health reasons [she is 79 and is on blood thinners and he doctor told her she couldn't handle him anymore].

He's a grouchy old man, haha. Here are some more pictures of him:

Awww, cute! Quakers are little weirdos! I have a lot of customers that have nest weaving quakers; it's so neat!
Are you on any bird forums anymore? I'm not really, but recently I started checking out avianavenue.com - so far a pretty cool forum.

He is the most boring bird ever, lol. he's been in that tiny cage for 15 years, and so he just sits on one place all day. I gave him some toys and have been trying to get him to be more active and explore, but he's just not interested. he doesn't even know what millet or treat sticks are. =/ I really, really need to order some toys from you, ugh, my money needs to get here faster! :P

I'm not really, but I will totally check that out tonight! Are you shadowrabbit on there too? :]

Poor guy! Have you tried giving him thin balsa and shreddy paper yet?
I'd love to do toys for your guys!
You stil haven't gotten your $? If you are getting back pay you'll be pretty happy when you do!

I'm birdybooty on there :)

Yeah, I gave him some wicker balls, and also a couple pieces of those "shredder" things. Nada. I bet your toys will get him into it!
I will definitely place an order when I do get my money. Someone told me I'm likely to start getting my monthly allotment before my backpay comes in. I think I'll be getting something like 2 years of backpay, so I am really, really excited.

I'll send ya a note or message or something when I join tonight! :D

I have a hard time keeping up on that forum as it is super duper active. It's a great place to read the latest on cages & stuff.
