    Yep, that's me. My name is Callie, I usually go by Calliemonster or Cal here on this wide expanse of the interwebs. I'm really not all that average, now that I think about it. I am 23 years old, pansexual, I don't drink alcohol at all but I dabble in other means of recreation and my whole world revolves around my pets. I do some rescue for parrots here in West Virginia - and I adopt them out to new, loving homes after getting them vet checked and eating a healthy diet. I currently own an eight year old Blue and Gold macaw named Bailey, a 14 year old Congo African Grey named Dusty and four budgerigar parrots named Killian, Frith,Duck and Caprice.


    My main reason for getting involved with parrot rescue stems from my rewarding relationship with my macaw, Bailey. I brought her home when I was 17, and knew next to nothing about parrots, let alone macaws. I struggled through school and read every available resource about parrots I could get my hands on. Bailey opened my eyes to the plight of parrots stuck in the merry-go-round of homes and I decided something needed to be done in my state. I'm young, and inexperienced when it comes to rescue, but I feel my heart is in the right place and I am ready and willing to learn everything when it comes to parrot rights and welfare. I no longer plan on opening my own rescue, but instead intend on lending a hand to the current rescues that are working in my area.

    Besides my parrots, I also have three dogs. First is my 'heart-dog' and she is the wonderful little hound that re-taught me my love of the four-legged ... Her name is Evee and she is almost three years old. She is a Jack Russell/ Pomeranian cross, and is the best dog a person could ask for. She is stunning at obedience and is a star pupil. Her favorite thing in the world is swimming and the dog park. She is also RAW-fed!


    My second dog is just a youngin', his name is Gage and he is about 17 months old and is an Australian Cattle Dog mix [mom red heeler, dad unknown!] and he is the most complacent, happy dog I've ever had. He is easy to please and is very calm. He was just recently given the OK by my doctors to start working as my Psychiatric Service dog, and so far he has been working out wonderfully! He earned his CGC in June 2011, and I am so proud of my boy! We plan on starting agility soon and we'll see how that goes!

    Paisley is my newest pup. She is a 9-ish month old Chihuahua who is my newest rescue. Her story is bittersweet, but she is a happy little pup now that she is here! She is learning commands very quickly and already knows upwards of 10! She's a little hard to train [as I've found chihuahuas can be!] but once she gets focused, she's very hard working! She is an awesome little pup who I believe also has the potential to perhaps become a therapy dog someday!

    I am a complex person at times, a complex person who enjoys the simple things in life. I do believe with every inch of my soul that I will never grow up. I still love turning stones in a forest creek now as much as I did when I was 5. I still love swinging in my hammock while the thunder tears open the skies. I still love searching the clouds for shapes that aren't there. I don't want to grow up, and no one can ever take that from me.

    I suffer from Rapid Cycling Bipolar Disorder/Manic Depression/Panic disorder and agoraphobia. I also have been Self Injuring since I was 12 and I am working towards healing these scars. I hate myself most days and struggle in and out of hating everything and being so depressed it hurts to move. I am trying to work through this. I am currently struggling getting my medications right and balanced and am having a very rough spell. I have got a FANTASTIC doctor and therapist, who I am in love with.


    As far as boyfriends go, I have a great one. We got engaged on November 10th, 2009 and though we've yet to set a date, we're still very excited about the prospect of spending our lives together. We've been dating for more than five years and we couldn't be happier. Seriously, all my other relationships were a joke compared to this. Our life right now is unfortunately in a stale-mate while he works out of town and I try to pull my own life together here. But, even so, I couldn't imagine my life without him.
